Students interested in a wide variety of communications careers may earn a Recognition of Completion in journalism at Mt. Hood Community College. For more than 30 years, MHCC has been training journalists, and you can find them in workplaces throughout Oregon and the Northwest. This accelerated program teaches skills specific to the profession, will help build a strong and diverse portfolio and offers the opportunity for practical experience through on-the-job training. Students are prepared for careers in reporting, technical writing, computer design, publication production, photojournalism, advertising and public relations, among others. This course of study is specifically designed for returning students who are retraining for a new career and students who already hold a degree in an unrelated field. Students interested in pursuing their education beyond Mt. Hood are encouraged to enroll in the MHCC transfer curriculum that leads to an Associate of Arts degree, see pages 86-87. Journalists-in-training may also take a variety of other work-readiness courses form the selected list printed below. Consult the faculty advisor for more information.
