   Exit 17, now in its seventh edition, is published in an effort to provide students in composition courses with successful work done by their peers – not to serve as a model of perfection, but rather to exemplify the beginning student’s ability to render an experience honestly, apply a theory, clarify a thought, offer an interpretation, support an opinion, or take a calculated risk. We hope it will help its readers step into the role of writers within a community of other writers who face a similar set of demands and difficulties, so that they too can go on to produce essays that help them discover and explore the world of language that surrounds us.
